“The award recognizes ten years of peer reviewed, NINS-funded research on the mechanisms and actions of Hedgehog signaling in the mammalian embryo. We have come along way in our understanding of this intriguing family of signals, nowhere more so than in the developing brain and spinal cord where Hedgehog signaling controls both the numbers and specific neural identities of clinically important neurons. I am very pleased that our studies have been so favorably received by my peers over this time and I am especially grateful to the NIH program administrators who nominated our work for a Javits award.”
