Personal Statement

I have always been drawn to explaining the why behind the world around around us. The field of neuroscience is fascinating because it explores how and why we learn.

I have had a diverse learning trajectory myself, from a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin, to my Neuroscience PhD here at Harvard in the lab of Takao Hensch, where I studied the role of specific inhibitory neurons in brain plasticity, on to the Arenkiel lab at Baylor College of Medicine where I continued to study inhibitory neurons and plasticity and lastly to Guoping Feng’s lab at MIT. Throughout my journey specific themes of hands on techniques to study and study learning itself have emerged.

As a preceptor, I work on MCB 80 where we have worked on transforming the class by adding additional guest lectures, demonstrations, applications and blended learning for an in-depth introduction to the brain.
