MCB Chair Sean Eddy has been named as Harvard College Professor. The five-year appointment honors faculty who excel in undergraduate teaching and positively influence the educational environment at the college.
Eddy is one of five faculty to receive the honor this year. His term as Harvard College Professor will run July 1st, 2023 through June 30, 2028.
“Research and teaching go hand in hand for me,” Eddy says. “If I want to make sure I understand something, I imagine that I’m going to have to teach it to someone. I teach my course in the same style that I’ve learned for teaching myself things, posing myself a small fun problem that I have to learn to solve hands-on, rather than just sagely nodding along with a textbook or lecture. I’m really glad that this style seems to resonate well with many students. I put a lot of effort into my teaching, almost as much as my students do in taking my course, and it’s always great to feel like hard work is worth it. I appreciate this honor very much.”
