MCB faculty Nick Bellono has been named as a Klingenstein-Simons Fellow in Neuroscience. The Klingenstein-Simons Fellowship, sponsored by the Esther A. & Joseph Klingenstein Fund and the Simons Foundation, supports early career researchers whose research has the potential to deepen understanding of neurological and psychiatric conditions.
“We are thrilled with the continued support of Nick’s terrific research program!” says MCB chair Venkatesh Murthy, who received a Klingenstein-Simons Fellowship himself in 2003. “It is particularly gratifying to see so many sponsors recognize his delightful and insightful work on unconventional animal models.”
The fellowship includes three yearly payments of $75,000 in support of fellows’ research. In addition to the financial award, Bellono will be invited to participate in a yearly conference with other Klingenstein-Simons Fellows. Past recipients of the fellowship include MCB faculty Florian Engert in 2003, Murthy in 2003, Rachelle Gaudet in 2007, and Sharad Ramanathan in 2010.
“I am very appreciative to be selected as a Klingenstein-Simons Fellow among so many great scientists,” says Bellono. “This award will help support our studies regarding how organisms sense and respond to their specific ecological context. We are grateful for this flexible support as it encourages us to explore new and unanticipated directions, thereby helping establish an environment that emphasizes curiosity and creativity.”
