We are very pleased to announce that Alex Schier has agreed to join our Department in the summer of 2005 as Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
Alex Schier is currently Associate Professor at the Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine in New York, NY. Alex Schier uses zebrafish as a model system to investigate complex developmental processes. His research has focused on the mechanisms that underlie gastrulation, left-right axis formation and neural development. More recently, he has initiated a new research program to uncover basic mechanisms regulating the development of neural circuits and simple behaviors. Prof. Schier’s research will provide an important link between genetics, developmental biology and neuroscience, and we welcome him as a new member of our community.
