Human Embryonic Stem (HUES) Cell Collection
Seventeen (17) human embryonic stem cell lines are
described in Cowan, C.A. et. al, Derivation of
Embryonic Stem-cell Lines from Human Blastocysts. New
England Journal of Medicine. 350;13. (2004). As with all of
our published reagents, it is our intention to make these cell lines as
freely available to the research community as possible. In this instance,
the HUES cells may be subject to patent and federal or state legislative
restrictions that are beyond our control. Harvard University
and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) have worked hard to
establish a simple procedure that will enable us to provide the cells to
the research community with as few encumbrances as possible.
At this time, to facilitate the transfer of HUES cells, we are not requesting
any fees, though the recipient will be responsible for paying the shipping
costs. Prior to sending cells, we must have a Material Transfer Agreement
and Certifications executed and evidence of Embryonic Stem Cell Research
Oversight Committee (ESCRO) (or equivalent) approval of your planned work
with the lines by your institution.
Instructions for requesting HUES cells, the procedures for executing the
necessary documents, and a lab manual containing detailed protocols can be
