The Biochemical Sciences concentration, which is open to students who entered the College before September 2006, is primarily concerned with the structure and function of molecules and cells and draws on methodologies ranging from chemistry and physics to molecular biology and genetics. Biochemical Sciences is intended for students who wish to study the fundamentals of chemistry, physics, and mathematics and their relation to biology. It is designed primarily for those who anticipate careers in the biological sciences including molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, neurobiology, genomics and bioinformatics, or in medicine. Click here for a more detailed description of concentration requirements and philosophy. Advising notes for Biochemical Sciences Concentrators are posted here.

In the spring of 2006, a new cluster of eight Life Sciences concentrations was approved. Click here to learn more about those concentrations.

The Board of Tutors in Biochemical Sciences, which was established in 1926, runs the tutorial program for the Biochemical Sciences, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Chemical and Physical Biology concentrations. The tutorial program offers individualized instruction to all conentrators beginning at the time of declaration. Click here to view a handout describing the history, goals, and format of the tutorial program.
