I am investigating how dsRNA is transported between cells in C. elegans and the mechanism of SID-1 transport of dsRNA into cells. To investigate intercellular transport mechanisms I am both recapitulating cell-to-cell transport in vitro using wild type and mutant C. elegans primary cell culture and performing a fine-scale sid-1 genetic mosaic analysis. To investigate how SID-1 transports dsRNA I am investigating ion co-transporter/activator requirements for SID-1-dependent dsRNA transport in preparation for patch-clamp studies to directly assay dsRNA transport through the SID-1 channel
