Research Area:
RNAi
In collaboration with Sean Whelan's lab at the Harvard Medical School, I've used Vesicular Stomatitis Virus infection of worm cells to demonstrate what has been suspected for a long time- that genes needed for RNA interference are also needed for resistance to viral infection.
I plan to investigate the possible role of SID-1 and related proteins in antiviral resistance and also plan to scour the ends of the earth for natural viruses of C. elegans.
