PcG proteins are believed to silence transcription by changing chromatin, and the ability of these changes to be inherited is thought to underlie their epigenetic effects. To understand how PcG-dependent chromatin features can be inherited, it is important to understand what these features are. Several projects in the lab aim to understand the biochemical effects of PcG proteins on chromatin. These studies will provide insight both into how PcG proteins silence transcription, and into the possible nature of epigenetic information.
